No Super League, La Liga Within Reach

The European Super League is dead for the moment, but we revisit some issues brought up in the early hours of the league’s announcement before it became no more. Big Win Brings The Year’s First Trophy Home

Fans of the club have a lot to be happy about this week. FC Barcelona went to Sevilla to face Athletic Club for the Copa del Rey final, and it was more than just a victory. It was an absolute thrashing. Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong, and Lionel Messi all scored in the 4:0 demolition of the same team that bested Barca in the Supercopa final. The team overcame a scoreless first half to break down Athletic’s deep defense in the second half to start the goalscoring wave. With eight fixtures remaining in La Liga, and Barca trailing Atlético by only two points, this trophy comes at a crucial moment to motivate the team to the end of the season. Loss In El Clásico Didn’t Lose The League

In El Clásico, Ronald Koeman sent a very young FC Barcelona team to face a strong Real Madrid, fresh off a Champions League win over Liverpool. Barcelona lost 2:1. It was their second loss to Real Madrid this year, who they haven’t beaten in two years now. But, the league wasn’t lost, an impressive feat for a team that we predicted would be fighting for fourth place earlier this season. Lionel Messi has given his demands to Joan Laporta, a reasonable set of requirements for him to continue with the club. Barca face Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final next Saturday. Takeaways From A Polemic Loss In El Clásico (repeat)

The second installment of El Clásico this season is coming this Saturday. We’re re-playing an episode from October, 2020 after the last Clásico. Barcelona lost 1:3, but they were tied at one goal for the majority of the game. Federico Valverde scored for Madrid in the 5th minute, and Ansu Fati tied it up three minutes later. It stayed that way until well into the second half, when Clement Lenglet gave up a penalty fouling Sergio Ramos in the box, which Ramos converted for the go-ahead goal, and Luka Modric put a third nail in Barcelona’s coffin in the 90th minute. Alejandro Villegas and Sergio Rodriguez from the Barca Talk team broke down the lineup, players, and tactics in that loss. | Join Our Patreon Community: http://tiny.cc/btshowpatreon | ¡Get our newsletter! https://mailchi.mp/1812f1156af4/barcatalkpod

Hitting A Stride In La Liga

In two games last week, FC Barcelona scored 10 goals and won six points to stay within striking distance of Atlético Madrid for the championship, trailing by only four points. In a 4:1 defeat of Huesca last Monday, Barca began shooting more from outside the box, and they scored three goals that way, with Ousmane Dembélé and Antoine Griezmann playing in more central positions. Also, Oscar Mingueza opened his scoring account. A road game at Real Sociedad saw an even stronger performance against a much more competitive opponent. Sergiño Dest both began his scoring for Barcelona and became the highest American goal scorer in La Liga history with two goals. Messi scored another two and two more came from Griezmann and Dembélé. We also saw notable, if brief, appearances from Ilaix Moriba and Riqui Puig. Future Promises In Present Loss

A showtime goal from Lionel Messi wasn’t enough to spark a comeback for FC Barcelona against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The French club is on to the quarter finals, while Barcelona still hopes to compete for two trophies in La Liga and the Copa del Rey. We look at Barca’s poor shooting and the youth performances in this match that have us looking forward to a new sporting project from Joan Laporta. |Hosts Brien Henderson - https://twitter.com/barcatalk_brien | Sergio Rodriguez - https://twitter.com/Serg53579636 | Join our Patreon community @ http://tiny.cc/btshowpatreon | Support the show directly @ https://bit.ly/SupportBT

Clean Sheets and Goals Prove Effective

Koeman put the same exact lineup and formation on the pitch against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey as he did in La Liga, and it kept Sevilla from scoring. Barcelona's goals came from pure individual performance though, rather than tactics. The 3:0 win was enough to go into extra time, and eventually on to the final where they will play Athletic Club. On the weekend, it was the same formation with only two small personnel changes against Osasuna. An unlikely crack of a goal from Jordi Alba would have been enough to get the win, but Ilaix Moriba opened his account at Barcelona in the 83rd minute to finish out the game 2:0. With PSG coming this week in Champions League, Koeman might field the same 3-5-2 formation he's become so fond of, but that won't be enough to make up the goal deficit they're currently facing. | Hosts: Brien Henderson https://twitter.com/barcatalk_brien | Alejandro Villegas https://twitter.com/alejandrovg32 | Join Our Patreon Community: https://bit.ly/bt-patreon | ¡Subscribe to our newsletter! https://mailchi.mp/1812f1156af4/barcatalkpod

Uncommon Tactics Get Major Wins In La Liga

A narrow Barcelona could barely get a shot off against Elche, but one change widened the team and opened the gate for 3 goals and 3 points. In Sevilla, a more robust midfield and fewer forwards set a trap that Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembélé sprung for the opening goal in a 2:0 win and 3 more points, gaining ground on Atlético Madrid. Drowned in Goals by PSG and Held Level by Cadiz

A high FC Barcelona defensive line against PSG in the Champions League gave up four goals. The second leg may an insurmountable hurdle. In La Liga, the defense of Cadiz proved to be impenetrable for Barca, and two crucial points dropped may have taken away any glimmer of hope for domestic glory. | Hosts: Gabriel Quiroga https://twitter.com/BarcaTalkPod | Alejandro Villegas https://twitter.com/alejandrovg32 | Join Our Patreon Community: http://tiny.cc/btshowpatreon | ¡Get our newsletter! https://mailchi.mp/1812f1156af4/barcatalkpod

Pain In Copa Turns To La Liga Joy With PSG On The Horizon

The dismay of a two-goal sacrifice in Copa del Rey to Sevilla changed to the joy of a four-goal win over Alavés in La Liga for FC Barcelona: an encouraging turn of events with the important first leg of the PSG tie in Champions looming. We analyze Dembélé's attacking moves and how he can improve to help the team score even more goals. Poor Defending On Set Plays Gives Athletic The Supercopa

This FC Barcelona team has proven they don’t really know how to play without Lionel Messi, and Jordi Alba has undeservedly played five times as many minutes as Junior Firpo this season. The first trophy of the year was in Barcelona’s grasp, after first getting past Real Sociedad in the Spanish Supercup semi-final with Messi out on injury. Athletic Club proved themselves to be deserving opponents in the final. Despite Messi’s return to the pitch, he had almost no impact on the game. Antoine Griezmann put Barcelona ahead, twice, and Athletic equalized twice, exploiting the poor defending of Barcelona’s Jordi Alba.Join Our Patreon Community: http://tiny.cc/btshowpatreon » Support the podcast network» Commercial-free podcast feed» WhatsApp Group» Friday podcast» Barca Talk Café (video)Hosts:Gabriel Quiroga https://twitter.com/BarcaTalkPodBrien Henderson https://twitter.com/barcatalkbrienBarca Talk is part of the Blaugranagram Podcast Network - https://www.blaugranagram.com/podcasts/This is a production of Soundit Media - https://www.spreaker.com/user/barcatalkpod)Thanks to TwoPointGo! for managing our social media and promotion - https://www.twopointgo.com/
